Linguistics Horizon gave me an inexplicably mythical experience. Anyone looking for abroad experience needs to go with this program. It’s affordable, it’s fun, and it’s in Peru. Not to mention Nicole Berry is a beautiful person. She goes out of her way just make sure you have the best experience imaginable. This program makes me want to go abroad again. Peru was an amazing country by default but this program made it even better. This program is one everyone needs to be in. I am going to recommend it to everyone I know. I am going to be talking about so much they will all be annoyed by me. This program is something that everyone deserves to do. From the area itself to hiking Machu Picchu, I had an amazing time. I still cannot believe that I did it and Nicole Berry helped me do it.

What would you improve about this program?
It can’t. It’s amazing. There seriously is nothing to improve about this program.

I had an amazing experience in A Coruña through Linguistic Horizons. The city is vibrant and truly has it all—delicious food, pristine beaches, fantastic nightlife, and plenty of cultural activities to participate in. Everyone speaks Spanish to you, which can be intimidating but is ultimately beneficial and everyone is very kind and helpful in communicating with you.
The University of A Coruña and Linguistic Horizons worked together to create an atmosphere conducive to learning as well as fun social interactions. I made friends with people from all around the world!
Nicole is a tireless, wonderful and helpful leader. She is not only fun and funny, but an expert in both Spanish and Coruña’s culture. She is full of advice and helpful tips. The day trips she plans are both affordable and incredible (especially the trip to the Cies Islands—you HAVE to go!) I cannot say enough good things about her!
Overall Linguistic Horizons is a stellar program that is successful in incorporating language use, cultural activities and fun! I left the program near fluent in Spanish, and truly became felt I was apart of the community in Coruña. I would recommend it to everyone, and am thinking about going back myself!

Linguistic Horizons is incredibly well run and I was always impressed with the quality of the services provided. Right from the start, Nicole was an incredible resource and was very timely with all of her responses. She really took the time to understand my goals and what I wanted to receive from my experience and internship abroad. She was very receptive to what I wanted and was very attentive to my needs. She worked very hard to find me an internship that I liked! I participated in the 5 week internship/study abroad program in La Coruña, Spain, and I had an amazing time! Coruña is a great place to have an immersion experience to practice Spanish, and I appreciated that she always encouraged everyone to speak Spanish, even with her! I feel that my Spanish skills improved greatly during my time in Spain. The weekend excursions were fun, and we attended many interesting events during the week. We also had the freedom to do many things on our own. Nicole was always available to help us in any way, and was an excellent problem solver whenever life threw anything at us. When I got sick, she immediately put me in touch with a great hospital and the experience went very smoothly. She cares so much about her students and I always felt very supported by her. Even when I felt like my Spanish was plateauing, she was able to keep me motivated and help me. I highly recommend Linguistic Horizons. Thank you so much Nicole!

Nicole runs this beautiful program! I did the internship + program and can say that both have been amazing experiences for me! I came to Peru hoping to understand how herbs and nutritional remedies can be used to treat illness, as I have had a growing distaste of western medicinal philosophy–I left having witnessed that illness can be severely impacted using natural remedies! In addition to the knowledge gain, I met beautiful beautiful people, and Peru is one of the most gorgeous, spectacular places! Both Nicole and Max are great, and I am so grateful for such an experience, if I could, I would do it all over again! Would highly recommend, do it!

This program was by far my favorite travel experience. It gave me full immersion into the culture, let me gain experience in my field, and explore the beautiful landscape of Peru. Every weekday I was at my internship, and on weekends we were always off on an adventure somewhere. The town is also pretty small, which was nice because I wasn't just another tourist. I would do this program again in a heartbeat if I had the chance!

Founder & Program Director
Nicole Berry founded Linguistic Horizons in 2013. Originally from California, Nicole loves languages and travel!

What is your favorite travel memory?

Nicole from Linguistic Horizons traveling

In April of 2015, I decided to travel through the former Soviet Union countries on my own. I felt it was time to remind myself of what it feels like to be lost in translation. I am a language lover; but, Russian is not one of the languages I speak.

I had quite an adventure after missing my direct bus from Brest to Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. I speak zero Russian and zero Belarusian, the two languages spoken in Belarus. I was so thankful to the locals who helped me navigate my way to this park.

Somehow, I was able to communicate with something similar to sign language, a local who spoke Italian, and another local who spoke some German. I do not speak Italian, but I do speak Spanish and the similarities are enough for an open-minded listener to understand. I was also thankful that my German minor came in handy in an unexpected place!

I love this story because it shows the value of learning foreign language and how kind and helpful local people can be while abroad.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Since I started Linguistic Horizons, I have grown tremendously. Running a company requires one to wear many hats. I have learned a little bit about a lot! I have learned by doing how to start, run and grow an organization. I have also had the privilege to travel and experience foreign cultures.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I designed all the programs to be amazing, in my opinion of course. I always go on the Peru programs. I sometimes go on the Spain program. I truly love both destinations.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Linguistic Horizons is unique because we specialize in foreign language immersion. Our students do their internships or take classes given in the local language. This is the best way to learn.

I was especially proud of my team this past summer. Each student was doing a different internship in four different countries simultaneously. I was pleased that we successfully coordinated these internships and that all the students returned home with a positive experience.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

We must wholeheartedly LOVE what we do.
