The placement is a unique opportunity to gain valuable psychology work experience abroad - in a new and exciting culture as well as sharing your skills in a community that values your knowledge. You’ll be working at a psychiatric facility for one half day a week and a rehabilitation centre for another half day, giving you one full day of hands-on work with individuals suffering with mental health issues in Sri Lanka.
Within the psychiatric facilities you will be running sessions in teams; the main aim being to improve quality of life by providing enjoyable activities, increasing their self-esteem and helping them to develop skills (e.g. cognitive, motor, communication). You’ll be expected to get creative and really think about how best to help individuals who are all at varying stages in their recovery.
This SLV Mental Health Placement is challenging, but it is massively rewarding both personally and professionally.
